Hunting 2008

Hooray! It is finally the end of hunting season for Paul... well, at least for the next few months or so. Last Saturday he got his buck -- a whitetail 3 x 3 with eye guards. He was really happy to get his first elk and another deer this year. So that means we have one full freezer of game meat. It's a good thing we decided to go with the larger deep freezer. Lucky for me I get to experiment with all kinds of ways to prepare game meat: Elk roast, elk/deer taco meat, elk Hamburger Helper, elk/deer steak, etc. Oh boy! I grew up eating deer sausage and jerky, but that's about it so this is all new to me. I've been able to stomach some of it, but I have to remind Paul that I need to take baby steps. =) Maybe someday I will just LOVE game meat?... Um, doubtful! ;)

Dillon had to get a picture as well. :)

Teddy Bear!

Look at our cute little teddy bear! =) The outfit is still pretty big, but perfect for her to grow into throughout the winter. She's all ready to take Bailey for a walk with mama.

She was fast asleep in the front pack by the time we got home.

This outfit makes her look huge!
Her legs only go about halfway down the pants. =)

What a Monday...

Today has been one of those days! I was late to work and forgot milk for Isabelle at daycare. Paul had said the night before that my eye looked really red all day. So I figured I better go to the doctor just in case it was pink eye. So after an hour and a half sitting at Pullman ReadyCare, the doc told me that I, in fact, did have pink eye... Ugh! Luckily I caught it early enough that it wasn't too bad and hopefully I haven't infected anyone else with it. He instructed me to take the afternoon off and start the antibiotics. Darn, I was hoping to go back to work for the afternoon. ;)

Well, that solved the milk issue and I got to hang out with Isabelle the rest of the afternoon. I thought I would be adventurous and try making a yummy recipe I had found in my Crock Pot Cookbook -- Hot Fudge Chocolate Cake! Hmm, a cake in a crock pot? Never heard of that before, but I gave it a shot. After letting it cool for over an hour (the recipe called for 10 minutes before flipping onto a platter) I asked Paul to do the honors as it was pretty heavy. Instead of this beautiful cake landing onto the platter the entire thing turned to moosh and gooed all over the platter, counter, floor and Paul... poor guy it was still really hot! Needless to say we took a few bites to taste it and it was okay, but definitely undercooked. What a bummer! Good thing I have tomorrow off. Maybe we should just stay in bed all day! =)

Do you ever get that feeling where you are just overwhelmed with gratitude? Today has been one of those days for me. It has been a typical day, nothing out of the ordinary. But all I can think about is how blessed I am. The Lord has given me an amazing husband, who I couldn't imagine my life without, and the sweetest little girl, who fills everyday with so much joy. Each morning while laying in bed with Isabelle Paul says, "How did we get so lucky?" I have to remind him that we didn't get lucky... we are just truly blessed! =)

Paul was out of town at a conference in Minnesota on Halloween so our wonderful friend, Julie, invited Isabelle and me over for the evening. We enjoyed chili dogs and far too many donut holes & candy! We only had 5 trick-or-treaters come to the door and that was including Isabelle and Dillon... What happened to the days when everyone went out trick-or-treating and Grandma ran out of candy she had so many kids stop by? Dillon was a riot, as usual, and Izzy actually stayed awake the entire evening (except for a little 10 minute nap). We didn't get her a costume this year, but she did wear a cute little festive outfit.

Of course we have some pictures to share. :)
